GE Healthcare to Use RTI Connext Middleware as Industrial Internet Transport for Medical Systems
RTI Connext Platform Allows Standardization on Common Platform Across Product Lines
SUNNYVALE, Calif.—August 14, 2014—Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the Industrial Internet of Things communications platform company, today announced that GE Healthcare intends to use RTI's Connext™ Platform as the core communication for new generations of several products. The RTI Connext Platform allows unprecedented connectivity, enabling smarter systems of connected medical devices in hospitals as well as fast integration and connectivity of large medical instruments.
"GE Healthcare chose the DDS standard because it can handle many classes of intelligent machines," said J Gustavo Perez, General Manager for MI&CT Engineering at GE. "RTI Connext DDS satisfies the demanding requirements of our devices and supports standardization on a single communications platform across product lines."
"RTI's technology performs as the nervous system for many of GE Healthcare's devices," said Stan Schneider, CEO at RTI. "With RTI Connext DDS and Connext Micro DDS, GE engineers are building a more connected patient care ecosystem with the goal to allow efficient machine operation and less expensive configuration."
By networking the many types of devices in a hospital room, alarms can become smart, only sounding when multiple devices indicate errant physiological parameters. By connecting measurements to treatment, smart drug delivery systems can react to patient conditions fast and reliably. By tracking patients around the hospital and connecting them to cloud resources, efficiency of care can be dramatically improved.
About RTI Connext DDS
Connext DDS is the only messaging solution that combines standards compliance with ultra-high performance and scalability, eliminating vendor lock-in and the need for proprietary messaging approaches. It offers extensive Quality of Service controls to accommodate specific real-time data delivery needs with respect to frequency, timeliness and reliability. It also significantly reduces the cost of servers, networking hardware and network bandwidth with many efficiency innovations, including a broker-less architecture, producer-side message filtering and smart cross-network message routing.
RTI provides the communications platform for the real-time Internet of Things.
Our RTI Connext™ messaging software forms the core nervous system for smart, distributed applications. RTI Connext allows devices to intelligently share information and work together as one integrated system.
Our customers span the breadth of the Internet of Things, including medical, energy, mining, air traffic control, trading, automotive, unmanned systems, industrial SCADA, naval systems, air and missile defense, ground stations, and science.
