Are you building the next generation of distributed, real-time systems? Designing connected systems to perform some level of automation is becoming increasingly more viable. The combination of lower-end processors, smaller, low power electronics and advanced networking technologies have enabled a revolution of intelligent industrial applications. This is true in industries including Healthcare, Transportation, Autonomous Cars, Smart Energy Distribution, Aerospace and Defense, and many others. The Data Distribution Service (DDS) specification outlines a software solution that addresses the needs of these types of autonomous systems.

This complimentary seminar will focus on the genesis of the DDS Standard and the technical details of the capabilities it provides to developers who are building distributed systems. Attendees will view demonstrations of the technology to explain the behaviors and benefits of DDS for real-time autonomous systems. The second half of the seminar will be a hands-on session walking users through the creation of their first DDS application. This will include developing an application from scratch and showing publish/subscribe of topics dynamically on a Local Area Network.

Who should attend

The intended audience for this seminar is primarily for software developers looking to get started using DDS for their distributed system application design project.

Message to Attendees

The hands-on portion of the seminar will include the installation of an evaluation version of Connext DDS Professional version 6.   For that installation (which includes tools, utilities, target libraries, and pre-built DDS examples) we will be supporting these hosts:
  • Windows
    • Windows 10, Server 2016 (Visual Studio 2017), x86 64-bit
    • Windows 10, Server 2016 (Visual Studio 2017), x86 32-bit
  • MacOS
    • macOS High Sierra 10.13 (clang 9.0)
  • Linux
    • Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (kernel 4.x, gcc 7.3.0), x86 64-bit
    • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (kernel 4.x & gcc 5.4.0), x86 64-bit
    • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (kernel 4.x, gcc 5.4.0), x86 32-bit
NOTE: Approximately 1 GB of free disk space will be required.

During the afternoon session, the seminar moderator will walk through the steps of creating a DDS application using Visual Studio.  Attendees with a suitable Windows laptop will be encouraged to follow along - developing an application from scratch (code generation and compilation).  Attendees on non-Windows laptops can follow along with the moderator and then use the provided pre-built binaries and Connext 6 tools.
