RTI Connext DDS is rapidly becoming the communications protocol of choice for complex distributed systems and Industrial Internet of Things projects. DDS focuses on data, to help every element of a system make meaningful, timely decisions.

Three Simple Questions

If you answer yes to two of the following questions, you should say "yes" to Connext DDS.

1. Does your system need high reliability?

A highly reliable system can be trusted to protect the people, systems and processes it supports. Connext DDS uses a peer-to-peer (P2P) architecture with no message servers or brokers, and the capacity for multiple redundant systems. This means no downtime, since system designs could avoid choke points and single points of failure.

2. Does your system require extremely high performance?

A high-performance system might work in machine-reaction time — micro- or milli-second speeds. It might easily scale to handle hundreds or even thousands of connected devices and systems. Or it could monitor tens of thousands of rapidly changing data values simultaneously. Connext DDS is autonomous and robust. The Blue Force Tracker project, for example, uses Connext DDS to track over 250,000 assets with only 80% of a single computing core.

3. Does your system need to have an extended life cycle?

With rapid technology advances, many systems need an architecture that easily integrates newer technologies as they are developed. New products come out every year, but systems must often work for years, or even decades. Connext DDS uses a data-centric approach. Any data sent through the system includes all the information and QoS details needed to understand and use the data. Newer and legacy systems can use all available information to work together seamlessly.
