REAL-TIME INNOVATIONS, INC. NAMED AMONG FASTEST-GROWING PRIVATE COMPANIES IN SILICON VALLEY

Reflecting dynamic market growth and solid financial performance

SUNNYVALE, CA, November 17, 1998 -- Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (RTI), a leading developer of tools for the real-time software market, was recognized as the 16th fastest-growing private company in Silicon Valley in the November 2nd San Jose Business Journal list of Top 100 Silicon Valley Private Companies.

The list, ranking firms by sales increase, recognizes RTI's revenue growth of over 500 percent since 1994.

"We are grateful to our employees and customers who have driven this growth," said Stan Schneider, founder and chief executive officer of RTI. "A new generation of intelligent, real-time devices is changing how the world works, from handheld consumer items to large industrial systems. We're proud to be a leader in the software tools market that is enabling this growth."

Today's Real-Time Market

Embedded system programming, or writing software that drives controllers, traditionally meant squeezing more performance out of limited memory and processor resources. However, increasing processor speeds and decreasing memory costs now enable a host of new intelligent devices to such an extent that real-time, embedded computers now outnumber all other types of computers. Today, the limit to growth is the ability of programmers to write code fast enough to capitalize on these expanding resources.

Real-Time Innovations, Inc.

Real-Time Innovations develops tools in three areas: analysis, networking and system design. They are used in a wide range of applications, from portable devices, to high-speed elevators, to the new launch-control system for the Space Shuttle. The company has over 2,000 customers worldwide, in such fields as aerospace, semiconductor equipment, robotics, telecommunications and industrial automation.

RTI spun out of the Stanford University Aerospace Robotics Laboratory in 1991. Its early partnership with leading real-time operating system vendor, Wind River Systems, fueled its growth.

The company's core products are:
StethoScope - a visual diagnostic tool for monitoring real-time programs as they execute,
Network Data Delivery Service (NDDS) - networking "middleware" which allows diverse nodes to communicate without network programming, and
ControlShell - a component-based real-time programming system for teams building complex systems.
