RTI and Wind River Deliver Tornado AE Debug and AnalysisTools Critical to Highly-Reliable Systems

RTI ScopeTools 3.0 Now Available SUNNYVALE, Calif.-April 9, 2001 - Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (RTI) and Wind River Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:WIND) are now delivering version 3.0 of the popular RTI ScopeToolsT product suite to software developers using Wind River's VxWorks® AE real-time operating system (RTOS) and Tornado® integrated development environment (IDE), together known as the Tornado AE platform. RTI ScopeTools are real-time analysis tools for developers working on highly-reliable applications in communications, industrial automation, aerospace and defense systems, and medical equipment.

"Wind River and RTI are teaming once again to provide innovative solutions to meet today's time-to-market and quality requirements," said Dave Sheaffer, senior director of product marketing for Wind River's Platforms business unit. "With Wind River's advanced Tornado AE development platform and the RTI ScopeTools analysis and debug tool suite, we provide the infrastructure and tools developers need to deliver reliable and efficient systems."

Tornado AE is Wind River's most advanced platform offering to date, implementing an innovative new computing paradigm for developing embedded applications that require the highest levels of reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS). Features like application isolation, user-mode protection, resource management and overrun protection give developers the platform they need to develop reliable applications. Wind River's Tornado IDE as well as the rest of the Tornado AE product line helps developers deliver these applications quickly. The RTI ScopeTools are the debugging and analysis tools developers use to ensure applications developed with Tornado AE run efficiently and correctly.

"The growing number of networked smart devices out there require a reliable communications infrastructure to support them," said Stan Schneider, president and chief executive officer of RTI. "The developers for these infrastructure systems rely on advanced tools like the ScopeTools to test, integrate and debug the code. Each RTI ScopeTool offers simple, one-touch operation without prior code instrumentation or recompilation, and each is built for minimal intrusion and impact on system performance."

About RTI ScopeTools
RTI ScopeToolsT is a suite of tools that give developers the insight they need to understand their real-time system and make it work:
  • StethoScope®, the real-time data monitor, lets developers watch any variable in an active system. One of the original WindPowerT tools, it is now the most popular WindPower tool for Tornado.
  • TraceScopeT, the execution-flow tracing tool, eliminates the chore of peppering code with printf() statements to understand dynamic program operation. It instantly shows which routines in a program were called, when they were called, and what arguments were passed.
  • ProfileScopeT, the dynamic CPU execution profiler, measures code performance function-by-function. It provides the information programmers need to write fast, efficient code.
  • MemScopeT, the instant memory analyzer, shows developers which functions are allocating-and leaking-memory. It ensures faultless long-term operation.
Availability

About Tornado AE
Wind River's VxWorks AE RTOS and latest Tornado IDE - Tornado Tools 3 - together form the Tornado AE development platform. Tornado AE targets embedded applications that required the highest levels of reliability. Employing a new memory management system, the VxWorks AE RTOS shifts the software execution paradigm from a single, flat physical address space into the realm of multiple, distinct virtual address spaces. System designers are able to leverage the memory management units of today's modern microprocessors to create protective boundaries, known as protection domains, which form the backbone of VxWorks AE technology. Protection domains provide application and kernel isolation without unnecessary complexity, increased overhead or rigid programming conventions.
