Sunnyvale, CA—September 30, 1997—Real-Time Innovations is proud to annouce ScopeProfile 2.1 for Wind River System's Tornado operating system. ScopeProfile is RTI's dynamic execution profiler. It lets programmers using Tornado and VxWorks tune real-time systems for maximum performance.
ScopeProfile shows the percentage of the processor spent at every level in the program, whether in the user's code or the operating system. The profile clearly shows the overhead incurred at each layer. For example, a network programmer could see the amount of time required for his code to prepare a packet, enter the I/O system, and then go through the socket, TCP/IP and the ethernet driver operating system layers. Both cumulative (including all subroutines) and direct CPU usage of each routine are captured.
ScopeProfile provides a detailed function-by-function analysis, breaking down the individual routines within the task that are using the CPU. It creates a direct map of what the CPU is doing, what routines are being called, what routines they call, and points out exactly where the inefficiencies are. This information can be used to tune time-critical systems for maximum performance.
With StethoScope showing the dynamic CPU loads, ScopeProfile can be used to analyze load changes as a program executes (the output can even be plotted in real-time.)
With the release of Version 2.1, users can start profiles, interact with the target, and view the output from the easy-to-use Java-based GUI.
ScopeProfile is both powerful and easy to use. RTI will be demonstrating ScopeProfile in RTI's booth (#545) at Embedded Systems Conference West.
ScopeProfile is available on Sun Solaris and windows 95/NT hosts.
