RTI Bids for Leadership in Real-Time Networking with New "Data-Critical" Platform Strategy Until now, data distribution in real time has been extremely complex and cumbersome, with costly and unpredictable results. RTI's new data-critical platform allows multiple sources of event-driven, time-critical data to connect in real-time and seamlessly ties complex networks of independent devices into a logical-and manageable-whole. "The need for a simple and reliable way to communicate real-time information over a network is so fundamental that domains as diverse as command and control systems, traffic monitoring, financial transaction processing, combat systems, and industrial sensing all use it as a core technology," said VDC senior analyst Chris Lanfear. RTI is uniquely positioned to seize this very large opportunity and has already seen tremendous success with Object Management Group's (OMG) Data Distribution Service (DDS, V1.0 standard) based platforms in military and aerospace. In particular, NDDS was recently selected for the U.S. Joint Strike Fighter program that builds jets to be used by the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps. An important aspect of the strategic sale of the ScopeTools business to Wind River is that RTI maintains access to the underlying real-time visualization tool technology. RTI will continue to develop and enhance this technology to strengthen the development environment for the new data-critical platform. "This enables RTI's new, open-architecture, data-critical platform strategy. We will combine the rich publish-subscribe NDDS middleware with new, targeted tools for distributed system visualization, analysis and real-time debugging," said Stan Schneider, chief executive officer of Real-Time Innovations. "This integrated platform will simplify design, ease development and improve the quality and performance of real-time distributed embedded systems in simulation, telecommunications, industrial automation, medical equipment, factory automation and avionics applications." RTI has led the way in defining the industry-standard model for real-time networking. As RTI developed its market-leading NDDS technology, it had the pivotal role in establishing DDS as the common standard (under the Object Management Group) that is now universally recognized in industrial and defense applications.
