RTI Provides Real-Time Data Management for
Military and Aerospace Applications
SANTA CLARA, CA -April 26, 2005
-Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (RTI),
the expert in real-time defense information networking, today announced
a reseller agreement under which RTI will offer the TimesTen/DataServer
real-time database system as part of RTI’s Data Distribution family
of products. With TimesTen/DataServer, RTI’s customers gain a highly
efficient, standards-compliant data management solution ensuring that
applications are instantly responsive, highly scalable and continuously
available.
Data distribution has been a long-time challenge
for defense networks. Until the introduction of Object Management Group's
(OMG) Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard, the solution was always
custom, non-interoperable and non-portable. “Our customers use RTI’s
NDDS open-architecture platform to solve data distribution issues,”
commented Gerardo Pardo-Castellote, Real-Time Innovations’ chief
technology officer and co-author of the DDS specification. “It is
natural that they would need to also store and retrieve data in real time.
With the addition of TimesTen, customers can now satisfy real-time data
distribution and data management requirements by working directly with
RTI.”
TimesTen/DataServer is built upon in-memory database technology
that provides an extremely compact, but powerful implementation of a database
system enabling even small computing nodes to function as data servers.
Conventional approaches to data management usually require large, dedicated
‘back-office’ platforms for hosting database operations, requiring
data to be moved between nodes during operations. With TimesTen/DataServer,
local data access is fast (on the order of tens of thousands of transactions
per second) and aggregate throughput scales with the number of network
nodes. In addition, the local storage of data greatly reduces network
bottlenecks.
Developers of real-time networked applications in military
and aerospace applications (such as the U.S. Joint Strike Fighter program
for the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps) use RTI’s NDDS to efficiently
deliver time-critical data to multiple applications in distributed systems.
These mission-critical applications must then manage accumulated system
data and make it readily available to other systems within the network.
Availability
TimesTen/DataServer for a multi-user development package, including training, tech support
and design consultation is immediately available from RTI. The RTI NDDS Developer Package is available for a three-user permanent license or a
three-user annual subscription. Packages include NDDS middleware, NDDS
tools and one year of support.
About RTI
Real-Time Innovations (RTI, www.rti.com)
leads the real-time information networking industry with the most resilient
and high-performance software solutions. Its products and professional
services provide the technology for national railways, air traffic control,
traffic monitoring, mission-critical combat systems, financial transaction
processing and industrial automation. NDDS, RTI's flagship product, connects
multiple sources of real-time data and seamlessly integrates complex networks
of independent devices into a logical whole. Raytheon, Nikon, Omron, Applied
Materials, Schneider Automation, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Harmonic and
the U.S. Military rely on RTI technology for their distributed real-time
systems. Headquartered in Silicon Valley since 1991, RTI is a privately
held company.
