Sunnyvale, CA—July 29, 1996—Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA) has announced the release of ControlShell 5.1, a revolutionary real-time software composition environment for developing complex real-time applications. ControlShell is the result of years of joint research between Real-Time Innovations and Stanford University.
"ControlShell allows users to build complex systems from reusable code objects called components. Components let developers share and reuse code on a scale never before possible," said Stan Schneider, Ph.D., of Real-Time Innovations. "ControlShell addresses both data-flow (sampled-data) systems and event-driven reactive systems. It excels at complex systems combining these traits. It also features a graphical configuration manager, an object data service, a real-time matrix math package, an interface to RTI's data monitor (StethoScope), full integration with RTI's network data-sharing package (NDDS), and an extensive library of components and device drivers."
ControlShell greatly increases individual programmer productivity and leverages the power of shared, reusable components. It saves time in documentation, verification, and maintenance. Yet, it's flexible and rich enough to support truly complex systems with extensive custom code requirements. Aaron Needles of GEC Alsthom Schilling Robotic Systems Inc. said, "ControlShell has revolutionized the way we develop software. It provides a proven, well-defined structure and the tools to make it easy to use."
The new 5.1 release adds many features, including a full hierarchical state machine programming system, a structured type editor and code generator, and an integration with the TCL scripting language.
ControlShell is being used extensively at many universities, companies, and national laboratories. It is available now on HP, SGI, and Sun workstations and supports VxWorks for the 68k, ix86, and Power PC.
Real-Time Innovations, Inc. is a Stanford University spinoff in the exploding field of real-time tools and architectures. RTI's corporate mission is to apply advanced software research results to real-world applications. RTI markets the ControlShell object-oriented software framework, the StethoScope data visualization and performance analysis tool, and the NDDS real-time network communication system.
RTI's products are used in all sorts of applications from deep-ocean research vehicles to environmental cleanup systems to interplanetary robotics, on platforms from embedded microcontrollers to supercomputers! RTI is shaping the future of real-time software development.
