Sunnyvale, CA—30 June 2003—Today, RTI (Real-Time Innovations) announced the availability of the Constellation software platform for control systems on TimeSys Linux RTOS.
Constellation provides a framework, components, and tools that simplify all aspects of control system programming, from initial design through field configuration. Constellation is deployed in control system applications including unmanned vehicles, military systems, and industrial automation devices. With this announcement, Constellation users can now take advantage of the true hard real-time capabilities of TimeSys Linux RTOS.
"The combination of RTI Constellation and TimeSys Linux makes good sense. Real-time control system engineers like Constellation because it enables rapid prototyping and high-level intelligent system development. They like TimeSys Linux because of the openness of the Linux Platform plus its deterministic attributes," said Dr. Scott Breneman, Constellation Product Manager.
"Having RTI's Constellation available for our customers will help us continue the rapid growth of TimeSys Linux in the industrial control, aerospace and defense markets," stated Mike Bauer, Vice President of Products at TimeSys Corporation. "With RTI's expertise in development tools for real-time control software, customers can now take advantage of Constellation's end-to-end tool chain and the benefits of Linux in a true Linux RTOS, TimeSys Linux."
The software platform is the foundation on which any control system is built. Historically, developers produced their own software platform, often for each new system and at great cost and risk. Constellation provides a complete software platform, from a field-proven framework to an end-to-end tool chain. The framework provides a flexible architecture upon which teams of developers can build modular solutions from re-usable components. The tool chain provides a graphical development environment that covers requirements analysis, software design, controls design, project management, networking, revision control, system integration, simulation, testing, and debugging.
TimeSys Linux is the lowest latency Linux kernel available, is fully preemptible, offers unlimited process priorities, and provides embedded developers with predictable control over the performance of their embedded applications. TimeSys Linux RTOS transforms true Linux into a single kernel, royalty-free real-time operating system (RTOS) that goes a step beyond the abilities of TimeSys Linux GPL to meet the predictability and performance requirements of mission-critical, 'hard' real-time systems by providing priority inversion avoidance mechanisms and high-resolution timers for fine-grained scheduling. Additionally, TimeSys Linux Reservations technologies ensure system response and predictable performance under extreme loads and overload conditions by reserving CPU cycles and network packet resources for critical tasks.
The fully-integrated Constellation package is available for TimeSys Linux immediately. For more information on RTI Constellation, please visit www.rti.com.
