RTI Data Distribution Service Leader Now Distributing and Supporting OCI CORBA Solutions
SAN JOSE–April 3, 2006– Real-Time Innovations, Inc. (RTI), and Object Computing, Inc. (OCI), today announced that they have formed a strategic partnership to deliver integrated support for the two most widely adopted real time middleware technologies, the Object Management Group’s (OMG’s) Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA standard) and Data Distribution Service (DDS) standards. The partnership encompasses distribution, support, engineering services and technology integration. RTI, the leading supplier of DDS-compliant middleware, is now distributing OCI’s open-source CORBA solutions and engineering services. This provides those using both DDS and CORBA with a single point of contact for sales, support, training, consulting and custom engineering. Now customers can easily take advantage of OCI’s expertise in CORBA together with RTI’s expertise in DDS. RTI is distributing both The ACE ORB (TAO), an open-source Real-Time CORBA (RT CORBA) implementation for applications written in C++ and JacORB, an open source CORBA implementation for Java applications. RTI has integrated its DDS-compliant RTI Data Distribution Service (formerly named NDDS) with TAO and JacORB integration will be available soon. By supporting a data representation compatible with TAO and JacORB, RTI allows DDS and CORBA applications to share the same data. Traditionally, without this level of integration, developers had to write code to convert data between the formats their CORBA and DDS implementations used. The RTI solution accelerates a user’s time-to-market by eliminating the need for data translation. RTI and OCI will also be collaborating on additional technical capabilities to facilitate the concurrent use of CORBA and DDS. “The partnership between RTI and OCI, leaders in standardization at Object Management Group (OMG), provides customers with a completely open architecture-communications middleware solution for real-time and embedded systems,” said Dr. Richard Soley, chairman and CEO of the OMG. “Standardized middleware is a major infrastructure component of many commercial and government projects. The choice of standards-based products rather than proprietary solutions is key to increasing the ROI of complex applications.” “What is best for our clients is always best for us and we have always been about providing choice for our clients,” commented Dr. Ebrahim Moshiri, CEO of OCI. “With RTI we can offer them more options, integrated support and an increasingly integrated product set.” “Partnering with OCI was an obvious choice for RTI,” added
Dr. Stan Schneider, CEO of RTI. “We already have many customers
using RTI products with TAO and JacORB. By working with OCI, we can provide
these and future customers with even higher levels of support and integration.” About CORBA and DDS Many applications have requirements to distribute both processing and data, and therefore they have adopted CORBA and DDS together. As a result, both standards are part of the U.S. Navy’s Open Architecture Common Operating Environment (OACE) platform. An advantage of CORBA and DDS is their ability to support highly heterogeneous and scalable systems. This makes them well suited for large, multi-vendor projects and for integrating applications that have to run on diverse hardware, ranging from servers to embedded systems. Some of the capabilities shared by DDS and CORBA include:
Availability Development licenses for RTI DDS include three developer licenses, two days of training, and one year of maintenance and support. The open-source TAO and JacORB are always provided free of charge.
